Wanyama Explains Dunfermline Exit After Short Spell

Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama has explained his departure from Dunfermline Athletic after a brief stint in the Scottish Championship, with the contract terminated by mutual consent in early February 2026. The veteran midfielder admitted the move did not unfold as planned.
“It just didn’t work out the way we all expected,” Wanyama said while reflecting on his exit. “I gave everything in training, but sometimes football doesn’t go the way you hope.”
The 34-year-old, who joined the Scottish side seeking regular football, made only limited appearances as fitness issues and tactical needs restricted his role. Dunfermline boss James McPake confirmed the decision was mutual, saying, “Victor is a top professional, but we felt this was the best solution for both sides.”
Looking back on a career that included spells at Celtic, Southampton and Tottenham, Wanyama added: “I’m proud of my journey. This chapter closes, but the story isn’t finished yet.”
