WAFCON delay offers Harambee Starlets time to rebuild

Kenya’s Harambee Starlets have received extra time to regroup after the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) schedule was pushed back, giving the team a chance to rebuild following recent friendly defeats.

The delay comes after Kenya struggled in international friendlies, exposing gaps in the squad as preparations for the continental tournament intensified. Head coach Beldine Odemba believes the additional time could prove valuable for the team’s development.

“The postponement gives us an opportunity to correct our mistakes and strengthen the squad,” Odemba said. “We must use this period to improve.”

One of the players echoed the sentiment, noting that the team is determined to bounce back. “The results were disappointing, but we’re learning from them,” she said. “We’ll come back stronger.”

With more preparation time now available, the Starlets aim to rebuild momentum and sharpen their squad before returning to WAFCON competition.
