Two Fans Receive Lifetime NBA Bans After Finals Court Breach
The NBA has issued lifetime bans to two spectators following a court invasion during Game 1 of the 2026 NBA Finals between the San Antonio Spurs and the New York Knicks at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio on June 3, 2026. The individual who entered the playing area was arrested; a second person received the same sanction for his role in the incident, the league confirmed in a statement.
The breach occurred with just over six minutes remaining in the fourth quarter, when a fan ran onto the court and approached Spurs center Victor Wembanyama while play was in progress. Security intervened quickly, and the game was halted for one minute and 29 seconds before resuming with a jump ball. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson said he considered the disruption a minor one, noting that security removed the intruder promptly and that play continued without further issue. Wembanyama, confronted directly by the fan who appeared to be seeking a photograph, said afterward that he had never encountered such a situation and was uncertain how to respond.
The Knicks won the game 105-95 to take a 1-0 series lead. The NBA Finals is a best-of-seven series, and the Spurs – who play their home games at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio – will host Game 2 on Friday at 8:30 p.m. ET. The league did not specify in its statement whether additional security measures would be implemented for the remainder of the series.
