Talanta Stadium needs upgrades to host AFCON 2027

Talanta Stadium in Nairobi will require major supporting infrastructure before it can host matches at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, officials confirmed this week. While construction of the 60,000-seat venue is progressing, concerns remain over access roads, transport links and auxiliary facilities.
Sports authorities said the stadium alone is not enough. “AFCON venues must meet strict CAF standards beyond the pitch,” an official noted. A football infrastructure expert added that “roads, security zones and fan services are critical for approval.”
Government representatives insisted timelines can still be met. “Talanta Stadium will be ready, but infrastructure work must move faster,” another official said.
Kenya is co-hosting AFCON 2027 with Uganda and Tanzania, making Talanta Stadium a central project in the country’s tournament ambitions.
