Talanta Stadium KSh10.85bn scandal rocks AFCON 2027

Kenya’s Talanta Stadium project has been hit by a KSh10.85 billion cost scandal this week in Nairobi, raising concerns over preparations for AFCON 2027. Lawmakers questioned the inflated budget and procurement process, demanding accountability as construction timelines tighten.
The 60,000-seater venue is central to Kenya’s hosting plans, but officials now face scrutiny over how the costs escalated. “We must get value for public funds,” a parliamentary committee member said during the probe.
Sports authorities defended the project, insisting, “Talanta Stadium will meet CAF standards and deadlines.”
However, governance experts warned that delays or financial irregularities could damage Kenya’s credibility ahead of the continental tournament.
