Starlets plan home friendly against Banyana Banyana

Kenya’s Harambee Starlets are targeting a high-profile home friendly against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana as part of preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The proposed match, expected to take place later this year in Nairobi, is aimed at sharpening the team ahead of the continental tournament in Morocco.
Head coach Beldine Odemba said facing Africa’s reigning champions would provide a crucial benchmark. “We want strong opposition to expose our weaknesses early,” Odemba noted, adding that home support could play a key role in boosting confidence.
South Africa, who lifted the WAFCON title in 2022 and reached the last-16 at the Women’s World Cup, are seen as ideal opponents. Football Kenya Federation officials said talks are ongoing, stressing the need for “competitive matches, not easy wins.” A local football analyst described the potential fixture as “a real test of Kenya’s readiness,” with the Starlets eager to build momentum before the demanding AFCON campaign.
