Starlets coach outlines fixes after WAFCON warm-up losses

Harambee Starlets coach Beldine Odemba has pointed out key areas Kenya must improve after back-to-back defeats in recent international friendlies, warning the team must sharpen quickly ahead of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

Kenya struggled in both matches, conceding goals and creating few clear chances, exposing weaknesses in defense and attacking transitions.

“We have identified the areas we must improve,” Odemba said. “We need better organization and sharper decision-making in the final third.”

Despite the losses, the coach insists the games offered valuable lessons. “These matches help us see our gaps,” she added. “The focus now is correcting them before the next competitions.”

A football analyst noted that the Starlets still have time to rebuild momentum, saying the friendlies “highlighted problems early enough for the team to adjust before WAFCON.”
