Sirikwa Classic attracts stars, pressure mounts on Ebenyo

The Sirikwa Classic has drawn an expanded list of elite athletes ahead of its upcoming edition in Eldoret, raising the stakes for Kenyan stars Daniel Ebenyo and Agnes Ngetich as competition intensifies days before the race.
Organisers confirmed that several high-profile international and local runners have joined the start list, turning the World Cross Country Tour event into one of the most competitive meets of the season. Ebenyo and Ngetich, both expected to headline their races, now face deeper fields packed with proven medal contenders.
“The quality this year is extremely high, and that’s exactly what we want,” said race director Barnaba Korir, noting that strong entry lists help athletes test their form early. Ebenyo admitted the pressure is welcome, saying, “Racing the best pushes you to another level.” Ngetich echoed the sentiment, adding that the Sirikwa Classic is “perfect preparation for a long season.”
Last year’s edition produced fast times and close finishes, and organisers believe the added star power could deliver another thrilling showdown.
With reputations on the line and form under scrutiny, the Sirikwa Classic is shaping up as a key early-season test for Kenya’s top runners.
