Siaya to host Kenya’s national para athletics trials

Siaya County will stage Kenya’s national para athletics trials on February 2–3 at Siaya Township Stadium, Athletics Kenya announced, as the country begins selecting athletes for upcoming international meets. The event will bring together leading para athletes from across the nation.

Officials said Siaya was chosen for its improved facilities and accessibility. “The venue offers the right environment for fair competition,” an Athletics Kenya representative said, adding that the trials are crucial for identifying athletes in peak form.

County authorities welcomed the decision, noting that “hosting the trials will boost local interest in para sports.” National team coach Francis Kipkoech stressed the stakes, saying, “Selection will be purely on performance.”

The trials mark a key step in Kenya’s preparations as para athletes aim to secure places on the national team for the 2026 season.
