Ruto unveils Talanta, 21 stadiums plan

President William Ruto on Sunday confirmed the construction of Talanta Stadium and 21 new arenas across Kenya, saying the projects will drive youth development and curb drug abuse ahead of AFCON 2027.

Speaking in Nairobi, Ruto said the facilities will create structured spaces for talent growth while preparing the country for major tournaments. “We are investing in our young people through sports infrastructure,” he stated. “These stadiums will nurture talent and steer youth away from drugs.”

Talanta Stadium, a 60,000-seat venue, anchors Kenya’s AFCON plans, while the additional 21 grounds will be spread nationwide. Sports stakeholders welcomed the move, with one federation official noting, “Access to proper facilities is key to unlocking grassroots potential.”

The government maintains the rollout will boost both elite competition and community engagement.
