Rulani Mokwena stopped at Algiers airport over cash probe

Former MC Alger head coach Rulani Mokwena was reportedly stopped by customs officials at Houari Boumediene Airport in Algiers while attempting to leave Algeria on Sunday, less than a day after terminating his contract with the club.
According to Afrik-Foot, authorities detained the South African tactician over alleged undeclared foreign currency as he prepared to depart the country. The case has reportedly been forwarded to the Dar El Beida court, which oversees legal matters at the capital’s airport.
An Algerian journalist told El Haddaf that “airport customs flagged the coach during routine checks,” adding that “the issue concerns foreign currency that had not been officially declared.”
Mokwena had parted ways with MC Alger after activating a clause in his contract that allowed him to leave early, with the club agreeing to pay two months’ salary as compensation.
During his eight-month spell, the former Mamelodi Sundowns coach guided MC Alger to the Algerian Super Cup and kept the team near the top of the league standings. However, exits from the Algerian Cup and CAF Champions League drew criticism.
