Rachier demands answers after Gor Mahia shock FKF Cup loss

Gor Mahia chairman Ambrose Rachier has demanded explanations from the club’s technical bench and players after the Kenyan giants suffered a stunning 1-0 defeat to lower-tier side BB Bread FC in the FKF Cup on Sunday. The upset eliminated the record champions from the knockout competition despite their dominance in possession during the match.
The underdogs punished Gor Mahia with a decisive counter-attack, extending their reputation as giant killers after previously eliminating AFC Leopards earlier in the tournament.
Rachier admitted the performance raised serious concerns. “I have asked the technical bench and players to explain what led to this,” he said. “We are not football experts, but it was clear this was not very good football.”
The long-serving chairman added that the club’s leadership was unhappy not only with the result but also the manner of the defeat. “We are not satisfied with the result or how we played,” Rachier noted, stressing the need to understand whether deeper issues affected the team’s display.
While acknowledging that cup competitions can produce surprises, Rachier insisted the club must address the disappointing outing quickly as Gor Mahia continue their domestic campaign.
