Omanyala unveils sprint club to grow Kenya’s speed

Ferdinand Omanyala has moved from chasing medals to building a pipeline, launching a new sprint club this week in Kenya designed to develop young athletes and raise Africa’s standard in the short sprints. The project, announced as the new season approaches, is meant to give upcoming runners the structure many lack — from coaching and conditioning to regular race opportunities.
The 100m star, Africa’s fastest man and a consistent sub-10 performer, said the club will blend technical work with strength programmes and modern support services to help sprinters progress faster and stay healthy. “We have talent everywhere, but talent needs the right system,” Omanyala said, explaining that the aim is to create a professional training environment at home.
A coach involved in the setup described the plan as “detail-driven,” focusing on starts, top-end speed and race management. Athletics administrators also praised the initiative, saying it could “change the pathway” for Kenyan sprinters.
For Omanyala, the message is clear: the next big win he wants is a faster generation behind him.
