Olunga Surgery Ends Qatar Season, Harambee Stars Captain in Doubt

Stars captain underwent surgery in Paris on April 2 for a pelvic condition, ruling him out for approximately eight weeks.

Al-Arabi confirmed the news, stating the striker “will undergo a rehabilitation program supervised by the club’s medical staff.” The Qatar Stars League wraps up April 28. Olunga won’t be back before the curtain falls.

It has been a difficult campaign. In 17 appearances across competitions, he has managed just 7 goals and 2 assists — his least productive season since moving to Asia. His last outing came March 13, when he played only 37 minutes of a 1-1 draw with Al-Ahli before being subbed off.

The injury had already forced him to miss Kenya’s FIFA Series matches the previous week.

The surgery went well, but the timing stings. Olunga arrived at Al-Arabi as a free agent with a point to prove. Eight weeks of rehabilitation is not the finish he wanted.
