Okwaro earns continental nomination after standout season

Kenya defender Manzur Okwaro has secured a major continental nomination in March 2026 after his impressive performances for Harambee Stars and club football elevated his reputation across Africa.
The 19-year-old utility player, who can operate in defence and midfield, was shortlisted following a breakthrough campaign that saw him play a key role during Kenya’s run at the 2024 African Nations Championship. His versatility and consistency drew attention from scouts and analysts beyond the domestic league.
“This is a huge honour for me and for Kenya,” Okwaro said, reacting to the nomination in remarks reported by local media. “It shows that the hard work is paying off.”
Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has repeatedly praised the youngster’s adaptability, saying: “He’s fearless and very versatile. You can play him anywhere and he gives everything for the team.”
Teammates have also backed the rising star, with one senior player noting, “We are lucky to have him; he brings energy and balance to the squad.”
Okwaro’s rapid rise—from youth international to senior regular—has made him one of Kenya’s brightest prospects, with the nomination further cementing his growing continental status.
