Nasser Eyes Uganda Rally Points After Kenya Safari Hiccup Wrecked His Title Defence

Yasin Nasser arrived at the WRC Safari Rally in Kenya as reigning African Rally Champion. He left it 10th in the standings.

The car broke down. He rejoined as a Super Rally entry, which meant his points were gone. Just like that, a title defence became a rescue mission.

“We are very low on points from the WRC Safari Rally Kenya because we had a hiccup with the car,” Nasser said ahead of this week’s Pearl of Africa Uganda Rally in Mbarara, running May 7-8.

The strategy now is simple: finish. No heroics, no gambling. A clean run through new course layouts — part speed, part technical — to bank points and start climbing back.

Karan Patel, Aakif Virani, Samman Vohra, and Jasmeet Chana will push him. The field is competitive. But Nasser knows his way around Uganda roads.

Prize giving at Lake View Resort on Saturday evening. He wants to still be in contention by then.
