Nairobi United lose millions after CAF group exit

Nairobi United have missed out on millions in prize money after being eliminated at the CAF Confederation Cup group stage on Sunday, ending their continental campaign early. The Kenyan side finished bottom of their group, denying them progression to the knockout rounds and the financial rewards that come with it.
United needed a positive result in their final fixture but failed to collect maximum points, leaving them short in the standings. The group-stage exit means the club forfeits appearance and advancement bonuses that could have boosted squad investment and operations.
“This is painful for the club because the money would have helped us grow,” a Nairobi United official said. Head coach added that “small mistakes cost us dearly at this level,” while admitting the team “learned hard lessons” from competing against more experienced opponents.
Former Kenya international remarked that continental football is “as much about consistency as talent,” noting Nairobi United must now refocus on domestic competition.
The club were making a rare deep run in Africa, and while the exit hurts financially, officials insist the experience will shape a stronger return.
