Musonye confident 2027 AFCON will proceed smoothly

Kenya’s AFCON 2027 organising chief Nicholas Musonye has dismissed fears that the country’s general elections will disrupt the tournament, insisting the continental showpiece will run successfully in East Africa.
The 2027 Africa Cup of Nations will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania between June and July 2027, marking the first time the competition is staged by three nations.
Musonye expressed confidence that preparations remain on track despite political concerns. “The tournament will be very sweet for the region,” he said. “We are preparing carefully to make sure everything runs smoothly.”
He also urged patience as stadium upgrades continue ahead of the event. “We are ready to host AFCON and deliver a memorable competition,” Musonye added.
CAF president Patrice Motsepe has also backed the hosts, saying he believes the tournament will be successfully organised in East Africa.
