Munyua stuns De Decker, Kenya celebrates Ally Pally debut

Kenyan qualifier David Munyua made World Darts Championship history at Alexandra Palace in London by upsetting 18th seed Mike De Decker 3-2, sealing the win on double 20 after fighting back from two sets down. The 30-year-old veterinarian, competing at the PDC Worlds for the first time, sparked huge scenes after also landing a 135 checkout in the decider and threatening a nine-darter earlier in the match.
“It is a very big moment… for Africa and Kenya,” Munyua told Sky Sports, adding that he stayed “focused and concentrated” even after a scoring miscount. Kenya’s President William Ruto hailed a “remarkable victory” and urged him to “bring the trophy home.”
Munyua next faces the winner of Kevin Doets vs Matthew Dennant as he chases more firsts on darts’ biggest stage.
