Morocco Hosts WAFCON 2026, Harambee Starlets Face Algeria

The road to WAFCON 2026 is clear. CAF President Patrice Motsepe confirmed Morocco as the tournament host on Sunday, ending weeks of uncertainty that had left qualified nations — Kenya included — in limbo. The new dates are July 25 to August 16, 2026, pushed back from the original March 17 to April 3 window that collapsed when Morocco briefly considered withdrawing, with South Africa floated as a potential replacement.

“There were circumstances that we had not foreseen,” Motsepe told CAF media. He didn’t elaborate. But the decision is made now — Morocco stays, the tournament goes ahead, and the Harambee Starlets know exactly what’s coming.

Kenya were drawn in Group A alongside hosts Morocco, Algeria and Senegal — as tough a group as the draw could have produced. Morocco have been finalists in the last two WAFCON editions. Senegal reached the quarter-finals in 2024. Head coach Beldine Odemba has time to prepare — the Starlets will also host a Women’s FIFA Series at Nyayo National Stadium from April 9 to 18, facing Malawi, Australia and India in useful warm-up fixtures before the July showpiece.
