Mixed 4x100m takes centre stage in Kenya’s relay build-up

Kenya has made the mixed 4x100m relay its headline project ahead of the World Relays in Gaborone, ramping up baton drills and fine-tuning pairings to chase a breakthrough on the sprint stage. Coaches have shifted sessions toward clean exchanges and smart leg order, betting that precision — not just raw speed — will decide qualification and medals.

“The mixed relay is our best window to surprise teams,” a sprint coach said. A runner in camp added, “Everyone is fast, but the baton is the real race.” An athletics official noted the event also fits the sport’s modern direction, saying, “It’s competitive, inclusive and it forces us to perfect execution.”

With selections approaching, Kenya will keep testing combinations and polishing transitions as it targets a statement performance in Botswana.
