Mariga Tells FIFA: FKF Is Still Standing, Documentation Coming by May 1

Kenyan football’s governance crisis has gone international — and McDonald Mariga is trying to hold things together.

FIFA and CAF jointly launched an investigation into the Football Kenya Federation after a contentious NEC meeting on April 24 triggered the provisional suspension of FKF President Hussein Mohammed, NEC member Abdullahi Yusuf Ibrahim, and Acting General Secretary Dennis Gicheru. FIFA has set a May 1 deadline for the federation to hand over full documentation about what happened.

Acting President Mariga responded with a statement insisting daily operations remain stable and that materials are being compiled. The federation described the FIFA probe as “a timely and necessary step to resolve the governance issues that have recently plagued Kenyan football.” Affected parties will get fair hearings, he said.

Three top officials suspended. FIFA watching. May 1 deadline. Kenyan football doesn’t need this right now.
