London Marathon 2026: Sawe and Obiri Hunt Millions on Sunday at the Showpiece

Sunday’s London Marathon has serious money on the line — and Kenya’s finest are front and centre.

Defending champion Sabastian Sawe lines up in the men’s race alongside Jacob Kiplimo and Joshua Cheptegei. Hellen Obiri, who just won Boston, heads a women’s field that also includes Tigst Assefa and Joyciline Jepkosgei. Eilish McColgan makes her marathon debut.

The base prize for winning is $55,000. But the real money is in the time bonuses — sub-2:02 for men or sub-2:15 for women triggers an additional $150,000. A world record brings $125,000 on top of everything else. For the right performance, a runner could pocket over $200,000 in a single morning.

London is also the first major to offer equal prize money across elite able-bodied and wheelchair categories. A landmark edition in every sense.
