KRU mid-season window opens for Kenyan rugby moves

Kenyan rugby clubs have been handed a fresh chance to reshape their squads after the Kenya Rugby Union (KRU) activated the mid-season transfer window this week. The move, rolled out as leagues enter a crucial stretch, allows teams to bring in reinforcements, replace injured players and plug gaps exposed in the first half of the campaign.

KRU says the window will remain open for a short, regulated period, with every move requiring proper clearance and documentation before a new signing can take the field. “We want clubs to have options, but the process must stay transparent,” a KRU official said, adding that approvals will be checked carefully.

Coaches have welcomed the opening, arguing it can rescue a season. “One smart addition can flip your momentum,” one club boss noted. Both permanent deals and temporary switches are permitted under the rules, and the window is expected to influence tight title chases and survival fights as the run-in begins.
