Kipyegon to Open 2026 Season in Shanghai With Sixth Diamond League Title in Sight

Faith Kipyegon is not interested in a quiet start to 2026. She rarely does quiet.
The three-time Olympic champion will open her season at the Shanghai Diamond League on May 16, running the 5,000m for the second straight year in China. The race won’t count toward Diamond League standings. It does not have to. For Kipyegon, it is about shaking off the off-season and getting sharp before Eugene and Monaco later in the year.
“See you in Shanghai,” she posted. Short. Straightforward. Classic Kipyegon.
The bigger picture is a sixth Diamond League Trophy — something nobody in the history of the competition has ever achieved. She has won five. She has broken a world record in each of the last three DL seasons, across three events, in four separate cities. At 31, she is not slowing down.
The 2026 season closes in Brussels on September 4-5. Between now and then, records are there to be broken. And Kipyegon tends to break them.
