Kipkoech Shatters Hamburg Course Record — Kenyans Dominate as Tokyo Crowns Kosgei

It was a weekend that belonged to Kenya.

Brillian Kipkoech demolished the Hamburg Marathon women’s course record on Sunday, running 2:17:05 — nearly seven minutes faster than her personal best of 2:23:56. She never saw it coming. “I never thought I could break the course record,” she said afterwards. “My goal was just to beat my PB by a big margin.” She did that — and then some.

Rebecca Tanui backed her up in second place with 2:18:25. In the men’s race, Morocco’s Othmane El Goumri took the win in 2:04:24, with Kennedy Kimutai finishing third for Kenya in 2:04:56.

Meanwhile in Tokyo, Brigid Kosgei set an Asian all-comers’ record of 2:14:29, obliterating the course record. Another Kenyan. Another record. Another weekend of dominance on the roads.
