Kipchoge opens up on threats after Kiptum tragedy

Marathon legend Eliud Kipchoge has revealed he received threats following the tragic death of world record holder Kelvin Kiptum, admitting the difficult period left him emotionally shaken.
Speaking about the aftermath, Kipchoge said the accusations and online attacks deeply affected him. “I was really down,” the Olympic champion said, explaining that the situation was painful both personally and professionally.
Kipchoge stressed he had no connection to the incident and called for respect during a time of mourning. “We should focus on honoring Kelvin’s legacy rather than spreading negativity,” he said.
The Kenyan star also urged fans to support athletes and their families in difficult moments. “Sport should unite people, not divide them,” he added.
