Kibugu earns KSh5m reward after Magical Kenya Open run

Kenyan golfer Njoroge Kibugu received a KSh5 million government reward this week in Nairobi after finishing as the top local player at the Magical Kenya Open, where he made the cut as the only Kenyan in the DP World Tour event. The 22-year-old sealed his place with a crucial eagle before closing with a five-under 65 to finish six under overall.

His tied 61st finish earned $7,560, but President William Ruto had pledged further support, later fulfilled by Sports CS Salim Mvurya. “Njoroge has attracted international attention and will soon compete globally,” Mvurya said.

Kibugu welcomed the recognition, calling it motivating. “This is a great move… it shows that effort and commitment can pay off,” he said, urging young golfers to pursue the sport professionally.
