Kenya’s Doping Storm Deepens as WADA Deadline Looms

Kenyan athletics ended 2025 under fresh pressure after WADA declared the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) “non-compliant” and set a tight window for fixes, raising fears of sanctions that could hit the country’s global standing. “The Signatory consequences listed in the ExCo decision will apply as of October 3, 2025,” WADA said, warning: “The decision will automatically enter into force by midnight on October 2, 2025.”
Locally, the clampdown has also bitten hard, with 20 athletes blocked from key trials after failing to meet no-notice testing requirements. “We know nothing about their whereabouts. It seems some of them are not interested in the World Championships,” said ADAK official Dr Martin Yauma. Acting CEO Peninah Wahome struck a firm tone: “Only clean athletes will head to Tokyo.”
