Kenya pushes to host bulk of AFCON 2027

Kenya has formally expressed its desire to stage the majority of matches at the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations, as preparations intensify for the joint tournament with Uganda and Tanzania. Speaking in Nairobi on February 19, 2026, government and football officials said the country is ready to take on a larger share of fixtures due to its stadium capacity and infrastructure upgrades.

Kenya argues that venues such as Kasarani and Nyayo, currently undergoing renovations, will meet CAF standards in time for the continental showpiece. Officials believe hosting more games will boost tourism and maximize economic returns.

“We have the facilities and the fan base to deliver a memorable tournament,” a senior sports official said. “Our aim is to showcase Kenya on the biggest African stage.”

A regional organizing committee member noted that match allocation will depend on readiness and logistics. “All three nations must meet CAF benchmarks,” he said.

AFCON 2027 will be the first edition hosted across East Africa, marking a historic milestone for the region.
