Kenya insists it will pay KSh3.5bn AFCON hosting fee before April deadline

Kenya has reaffirmed its commitment to co-hosting the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations with Uganda and Tanzania, despite concerns over its ability to pay the mandatory KSh3.5 billion hosting fee to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) by the April 2026 deadline.
Local Organising Committee chair Nicholas Musonye said Kenya remains on track to honour its financial obligations even after Parliament rejected a bid by the Sports Ministry to increase the budget for the tournament. Both Uganda and Tanzania have already fulfilled their payments, adding pressure on Kenya to finalise its share.
Musonye told Sporty FM, “The ministry is working on it. Our government is committed and will honour the obligation,” urging fans not to worry about the looming deadline.
Kenya’s past failure to host major CAF events heightens the stakes of meeting the payment requirement on time
