Kenya cleared by WADA as Sports CS praises reforms

Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary Ababu Namwamba has praised the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya (ADAK) after the country was officially removed from the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) watchlist following major reforms in its anti-doping system.
WADA confirmed the decision this week after reviewing Kenya’s progress in strengthening testing, investigations and athlete education programs. The move ends a period of scrutiny that had threatened the country’s reputation in global athletics.
“This is a major milestone for Kenyan sport,” Namwamba said. “Our commitment to clean competition is firm and the results are now visible.”
ADAK chief Sarah Shibutse also welcomed the development, saying the agency had intensified testing and compliance measures. “We have strengthened our systems and will continue protecting the integrity of sport,” she said.
Sports analysts say the decision restores confidence in Kenya’s athletics program, which has faced several doping scandals in recent years but remains one of the world’s strongest distance-running nations.
