Kenya Bags Four Medals on Day One of Africa Wrestling Championships in Egypt

Kenya opened the 2026 Africa Wrestling Championships with a strong showing — four medals on day one in Alexandria.
The championships, which feature around 500 athletes from 27 African countries across Under-17, Under-20, and Senior divisions, got underway on April 27. Kenya’s U17 wrestlers were the first to deliver.
Jemimmah Nakhumicha led the way with silver in the 65kg class. Joy Lichuma, Shalline Joy, and Sophia Nancy each added bronze in the 57kg, 49kg, and 73kg categories respectively. Four medals from four athletes — a solid platform to build on over the coming days.
The senior championships run May 1-2. Kenya will be looking to add to their tally significantly before the event concludes
