John Korir Pockets Ksh25.6M After Shattering 15-Year Boston Marathon Record

Fifteen years. One man. One minute.
John Korir crossed the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday in 2:01:52 — obliterating Geoffrey Mutai’s course record that had stood since 2011. Over a minute gone. Just like that. He finished 55 seconds clear of runner-up Alphonce Simbu and is now the fifth fastest marathoner in history.
The money follows the glory. First place: $150,000. Course record bonus: $50,000. Total: $200,000 — roughly Ksh25.6 million in his pocket.
“For many years, my mind was set on the course record,” Korir said. “I thank God I have achieved it now.”
Back-to-back Boston titles. His brother Wesley won here in 2012. They are the only siblings to ever both win this race. The Korir name now belongs to Boston forever.
