Hat-Trick Micah Obiero Follows Brother Zech’s Kenya Debut

While younger brother Zech Obiero was making headlines with Harambee Stars, elder sibling Micah was doing his own talking — with a hat-trick for Wealdstone in a stunning 7-0 demolition of Hartlepool on Tuesday.

The match was a National League fixture, England’s fifth tier. Micah opened the scoring in the fourth minute, added a second in the 22nd and completed his hat-trick before half-time. It was a complete striker’s performance.

The timing could not have been better. Zech had just delivered a bright Kenya debut — assisting the equalizer against Estonia before scoring in the 3-0 win over Grenada. The Obiero family is suddenly very relevant to Kenyan football.

Micah has been one of Wealdstone’s most consistent performers this season. He now has 13 goals and 4 assists in 45 appearances, with 8 of those goals coming in his last 8 matches. That is the kind of run that gets noticed.

Coach Benni McCarthy has spoken about Kenya’s need for clinical finishing. Micah Obiero, watching from the English fifth division, is knocking loudly on that door.
