Hamilton backs Kenya bid to host Formula 1 Grand Prix

Seven-time Formula 1 champion Lewis Hamilton has named Kenya among African countries he would like to see host a future Formula 1 Grand Prix, urging the sport to finally return to the continent after decades away.
Speaking recently about F1’s global expansion, the British driver said Africa deserves a place on the calendar, noting that the championship has not held a race on the continent since the 1993 South African Grand Prix.
“I loved Kenya when I visited,” Hamilton said. “Africa has incredible places and fans who deserve to experience Formula 1.”
The Ferrari driver also highlighted other possible venues across the continent. “Rwanda and South Africa are spectacular locations,” he added, stressing that the sport should explore several options.
Motorsport analysts believe Hamilton’s continued push could influence discussions inside Formula 1 leadership. “He has been one of the loudest voices advocating for a race in Africa,” a motorsport expert noted. “That momentum could eventually open the door for countries like Kenya to host a Grand Prix.”
