Global Stars Head to Nairobi’s Kip Keino Classic on April 24

The 2026 Kip Keino Classic is shaping up to be its most competitive edition yet. Meet director Barnaba Korir confirmed Friday that sprinter interest has surged, with athletes from as far as Australia submitting requests to compete at the World Continental Tour Gold meeting at Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi, on April 24.

Kenya’s Ferdinand Omanyala — African 100m record holder at 9.77 seconds — is confirmed. Sha’Carri Richardson and Kenneth Bednarek are among those linked with the meeting, with many targeting qualifying times for the World Relays in Botswana in May.

“There is so much interest. This time we have received requests from athletes from different corners, all the way to Australia,” Korir told Capital FM. World Athletics official Owen Malone noted: “We have a major advantage in Nairobi. Between 1700 and 1800 metres above sea level, there is actually less air resistance.” The event is scheduled for Friday evening on April 24 at Nyayo Stadium.
