FKF to launch national futsal league in Kenya

The Football Kenya Federation (FKF) will launch a national futsal league in 2026 as part of efforts to raise football standards and widen the talent pool across the country. The league will be staged nationwide, targeting clubs, academies and young players, with FKF viewing futsal as a key development tool.
FKF officials say the fast-paced format will sharpen technique, decision-making and creativity among players. “Futsal is central to modern football development,” an FKF official said, adding that the league will “create a clear pathway for youth progression.”
Local coaches have welcomed the move. “This will improve ball control and game intelligence,” said a Nairobi-based trainer. Another coach noted that “structured competition is what has been missing.”
Kenya has previously competed in regional futsal tournaments but lacked a consistent domestic structure. FKF believes the new league will strengthen grassroots football and support long-term national team growth.
