FKF targets diaspora stars to boost Kenya for AFCON 2027

Football Kenya Federation (FKF) vice president McDonald Mariga has revealed that the federation is actively recruiting Kenyan players from the diaspora to strengthen the national team ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking about the strategy, Mariga said the move is aimed at helping Kenya compete with regional rivals Uganda and Tanzania as the country prepares for the tournament it will co-host. “We want the best Kenyan talent everywhere,” Mariga said. “Players abroad can raise the level of the team.”

He added that several eligible players based in Europe and other leagues are already being monitored. “If they qualify and are committed, the national team doors are open,” Mariga noted.

Kenya hopes the expanded talent pool will boost competitiveness as preparations intensify for AFCON 2027, which will be hosted jointly by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
