FKF Paid Ksh42M to a Newly Registered Firm Over Lower CHAN 2024 Insurance Bids

Something doesn’t add up at FKF.

The Football Kenya Federation had three insurance quotes in front of them ahead of CHAN 2024. Britam — one of Kenya’s most established insurers — came in at Ksh29,155,677. That should’ve been easy. But FKF went with a different firm entirely, paying Ksh42,406,815 instead. Nearly Ksh13 million more.

And the firm they chose? Registered on June 25, 2025 — weeks before the August 4 payment went through.

CAF required all three co-hosts to hold $30 million in civil liability cover. Nicholas Musonye, the Local Organising Committee chair, confirmed the coverage was there. “CAF would not have allowed the tournament to go ahead without it,” he said. But when asked to name the insurer, he declined.

No explanation. No transparency. Just a Ksh42 million question nobody’s answering.
