FKF appoints Gicheru acting CEO during Ndege court dispute

The Football Kenya Federation has named Dennis Gicheru as acting Chief Executive Officer on February 6 in Nairobi, moving to steady operations as suspended CEO Harold Ndege remains locked in an ongoing legal battle with the federation.
The appointment follows weeks of tension within FKF after Ndege challenged attempts to remove him, securing court orders that have stalled disciplinary action. With the case unresolved, FKF opted to install Gicheru on an interim basis to ensure continuity at the secretariat.
“FKF must keep functioning despite the legal process,” the federation said in a brief statement announcing the decision. President Hussein Mohammed has previously argued that leadership changes are necessary to restore accountability, insisting the dispute is about governance, not personalities.
Ndege, however, has maintained that the process against him is flawed, saying he will “continue defending his position through legal means.” Observers note the standoff has already disrupted key administrative work.
The move places Gicheru at the centre of a delicate transition, with Kenyan football stakeholders watching closely as the court case continues.
