Faith Kipyegon confirms Monaco return for 5000m test

Faith Kipyegon has confirmed she will return to the Monaco Diamond League this summer to compete in the 5000m, weeks after winning her 10km road debut in February. The three-time Olympic 1500m champion announced the decision as part of her build-up to the 2026 track season.

Kipyegon impressed in her first 10km outing, showing strength beyond her trademark middle-distance dominance. “I wanted to challenge myself over a new distance,” she said after the race. “The 10km gave me confidence.”

Turning to Monaco, she added: “It’s a special track for me. I’m excited to test myself in the 5000m.” Her coach noted the move is about “building endurance without losing speed,” signaling a bold expansion of her range.
