Abuya Facing Third Coach in One Season as Yanga Axe Portuguese Boss Goncalves
Duke Abuya has barely had time to learn anyone’s name this season.
Young Africans sacked head coach Pedro Goncalves on Wednesday — seven months into his tenure — leaving the Harambee Stars midfielder facing his third manager of the campaign. Romain Folz went first. Then Goncalves came in October and lasted until now. Joint interim coaches Abdihamid Moalin and Patrick Mabedi take over.
The reasons were stacking up. Yanga were knocked out of the CAF Champions League at the group stage. They lost the Muungano Cup final to Tanzanian rivals Simba SC. Fans grew increasingly frustrated with the style of play and the inconsistency of results.
“The club’s leadership thanks coach Pedro Goncalves for his contribution during his time at the club,” Yanga said in their statement.
Abuya keeps playing regardless. But three coaches in one season is not stability — it’s chaos. And stability is exactly what Yanga, and their Kenyan midfielder, need right now.
