Absa Hands Kibugu KSh 2 Million for Historic Magical Kenya Open Run

Njoroge Kibugu has received a KSh 2 million cheque from Absa Bank Kenya after becoming the only local golfer to make the cut at the 2026 Magical Kenya Open at Karen Country Club.

The 22-year-old closed the tournament with a flawless round of 65 — five birdies, no dropped shots — finishing six under par. A decisive eagle at hole 18 in round two had sealed his place in the final stages.

Kibugu said the funds will fuel his Sunshine Tour campaign: “No Kenyan has won on the Sunshine Tour. That is one of my goals, and I cannot wait for the next Magical Kenya Open.”

Absa, the tournament’s presenting partner for the 15th consecutive year, invested KSh 65 million into the event. The Kenyan government separately handed Kibugu KSh 5 million in recognition of his performance.
